This notice explains how Contemporánea Law collects, uses, safeguards and deletes the personal data you provide through the contact form on this website. It is issued under Costa Rican Law No. 8968 on the Protection of Persons with regard to the Processing of their Personal Data, and its regulations.
Please read it before sending your enquiry. By ticking the consent box on the form you confirm that you have read this notice in the version shown above and that you authorise the processing described here.
This is a courtesy translation. The Spanish version is the binding one.
1. Data controller

2. Data we collect
Through the contact form we collect only what you choose to give us:
- Name (required).
- Email address (required).
- Message describing your enquiry (required).
- Company (optional).
- Area of interest (optional).
3. Technical data tied to the submission
When processing your submission we record the date and time of your consent and the version of this notice you were shown. Your IP address is used temporarily and in memory to rate-limit automated submissions and for bot verification; it is not stored alongside your enquiry and is not used to profile visitors.
Bot verification is performed by Cloudflare Turnstile, which may receive your IP address and technical browser data for the sole purpose of telling people apart from automated programs.
4. Purpose of the processing
Your data is processed exclusively to:
- Answer and follow up on the enquiry you send us.
- Assess and, where appropriate, prepare a possible professional relationship with you or your company.
- Comply with legal, accounting and professional obligations applicable to the practice of law and notarial services in Costa Rica.
We do not use your data for advertising, we do not sell or transfer it to third parties for commercial purposes, and we do not make automated decisions about you.
5. Nature of the answers
Fields marked as required are necessary in order to handle your enquiry: without a name, email and message we cannot identify you or reply. Optional fields may be left blank with no consequence. If you would rather not use the form, you can contact us directly by email or phone.
6. Recipients and transfers
Your enquiry reaches the firm by one of two routes, depending on how the site is configured at the moment you send it.
The first is the firm's internal case management platform, hosted at portal.contemporanealaw.com, which is accessed only by the team members who need it in order to assist you. The transmission is encrypted.
The second is WhatsApp. In that case, submitting the form opens a WhatsApp conversation in your browser with the text of your enquiry already written, and you are the one who decides to send it. The message then travels through the services of WhatsApp Ireland Limited, part of the Meta group, which acts as a recipient and processes the content under its own terms and privacy policy, on servers located outside Costa Rica.
We also rely on technology infrastructure providers (hosting for this site and for the platform, and bot verification) acting as data processors, which may process the data on servers outside Costa Rica. We do not transfer your data to any other third party except at the request of a competent authority or where the law requires it.
Anything you share with us is additionally covered by the professional privilege governing the practice of law.
7. Retention period
If your enquiry does not lead to a professional relationship, we keep your data for a maximum of twenty-four (24) months and then delete it. If it does lead to a professional relationship, the data is kept for the duration of that relationship and for the periods required by applicable professional, tax and anti-money-laundering rules.
Where the enquiry arrives over WhatsApp, the message stays in that conversation and is subject to the same periods on our side. You should know that a copy also remains on your own device and in your own WhatsApp account, outside our control.
8. Your rights
Law 8968 grants you the rights of access, rectification, updating and deletion of your data, and the right to withdraw the consent you have given. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the request.
You may exercise these rights by writing to team@contemporanealaw.com from the address you contacted us with, or in writing at our offices. We will respond within the periods set by the applicable rules. If you believe your rights have not been honoured, you may turn to the Agencia de Protección de Datos de los Habitantes (Prodhab).
9. Security
We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data: encrypted transmission, access restricted to authorised staff, and platform credentials that are never exposed in the browser. No system is infallible, so we recommend not including sensitive information or confidential documents in the form: keep those details for the follow-up conversation over a secure channel.
10. Changes to this notice
We may update this notice. Each version carries its own identifier, and the version in force at the time of your submission is recorded alongside your enquiry, so it is always possible to know exactly which text you accepted.
